Quantification of Awesome: Part 2

I've had some really good suggestions regarding the unit of Awesome measurement. We are not limited to one unit here. For example you don't need the same units to talk about small pieces of awesome as you do large sweeping swathes of awesome, for example 1 Tesla = 10,000 Gauss. Also important is a unit of density, to properly measure how much awesome per square meter we have.

On the table is:
My suggestions will come later, when the time is ripe.

Zombie Love

Here are some details for the 2nd Annual Calgary Zombie Walk which takes place on Saturday, October 14th.

It starts at 3pm from Olympic Plaza and/or 4pm from the park at 17th Ave and 8th St.

The walk will start in two stages, as follows:
  1. All "super zombies" are invited to gather at Olympic Plaza no later than 3pm. From Olympic Plaza the horde will head down Stephen Avenue to 4th Street SW, then head south to 17th Ave. Shambling westward form that point, the next stop is the park at 17th Ave & 8th St, where we will meet:
  2. The lazy zombies. A second group of zombies will gather at the above mentioned park at or around 4pm.
Finally some links to get you in the zombie spirit.

John Hodgman Hobo Project

While compiling the complete world knowledge into "The Areas of My Expertise," John Hodgman was sure to include many important matters, including matters historical, matters literary, matters cryptozoological, Food, Drink, & Cheese (a Kind of Food); Squirrels & Lobsters & Eels.

He was also sure to include Hobo Matters in the form of 700 hobo names. While documenting Hobos and their unfathomable hobo code. Mr Hodgman began traking the "H in sunrays" symbol which means that "Hoboes are going to rise up and take over the United States Government." To aid in tracking this phenomenom he started a Flickr group. I submitted one of my findings and was fortunate enough to gain the approval of Mr. Hodgman himself and appear on his blog here: "Good evening"

The Areas of My Expertise is on my reading list now, but depending on the choices of my Book Club, it may take a little time to get to. For completeness I include a short promotional video for The Areas of My Expertise featuring Hodgman's bard, Jonathan Coulton.

These are a few of my favourite things

Singer Jonathan Coulton now has a podcast on Popular Science.

Here is a picture of him interviewing a Stormtrooper. Two of my loves have come together in one place. Perhaps a Chocolate-Porno-Sandwich is next to be wrought upon the world.

The image is from Popular Science. Please don't sue.

Current Fixations

Wookies

Peter Mayhew will be at the Calgary Comic and Toy Expo on May 7th. The local chapter of the Star Wars FanForce will be there along with the 501st Badlands Garrison .

We have some special presentations for everyone’s favourite wookie. I will post pics after said event.

Jonathan Coulton

I really can't get enough of Jonathan Coulton. He writes beautiful geek folk rock songs about zombies, Ikea, and those sad fools who write code all day (ahem cough).

I currently am Demanding that he come to Calgary, via the far-less-self-important-sounding site eventful.com

Captain Proton

The monochromatic space hero from Star Trek: Voyager has captivated my interest enough to attempt to create a replica costume to wear as a hall costume at the various Science Fiction and Fantasy conventions I'm planning on attending over the next few months.

The costume is simple enough so I wanted to get as many details as I could right. During my research discovered Commando Cody, one of the sources for inspiration for Captain Proton. The jacket, control box, belt and jet pack worn by Tom Paris/Robert Duncan McNeill as Proton are replica Commando Cody props made by a fan and prop builder for Star Trek. I contacted him and he furnished me with his graphics that he used to make his replica. I am very grateful for all his help. Pictures of my finished costume will follow.
