Community Season 2 rap by DJ Steve Porter
Season 2 of Community is as about as perfect as television comedy can get. Here is a remix rap by DJ Steve Porter to further bring both noise and funk.

Cutlery Grand Unification
All of these cutlery chimeras exist, to varying degrees of success. The best known hybrid, the spork, has a history dating back to 1874. It became known to me when I was a kid, and I puzzled over them in the Kentucky Fried Chicken utensil and seasoning packets. I do believe this was the perfect tool for eating all three of the varied consistency salads, as well as flaying fried meat from the bone.
The spife's history is less well known, and is filled with kiwis.
The knork is a goofy way of saying "pastry fork" as they are ultimately the same thing.
The splayd dates to the 1940's but really is taking things too far. Honestly.
Bonus clip! Fictionalized quasi-steampunk history of the invention of the knork from Clone High:
I believe the first post of the image "Grand Unification of Cutlery" is from [the ragbag]. Respect.

Women Falling down
Something I've noticed before, and I'm glad to have it confirmed: Women fall down a lot in romantic comedies. I guess subtle indications of vulnerability or flaws in character are too easy to portray.

Improv in Calgary
Purple Impro Depot |
Its a great little space, but due to the building zoneing regulations, they can't put up signs or really advertise. Support some local arts, and laugh yourself silly at the same time.
Friday night performances are a series of improv games that are really entertaining. I haven't had a chance to go to a Saturday show yet, but they promise different formats such as directed improv, improv musicals, and Harold narratives.
Shows are Friday and Saturday nights at 8:00.
Tickets are 2 for $10.

The Doctor & Star Wars
This is a very well done little mashup of the Star Wars and Doctor Who universes. There is a growing trend to include The Doctor in every franchise, which is fine by me. This video was done by Kelvington, who asserts some form of copyright at the end of the video, though it is unclear exactly what unique element is left in the work..

Lord of the Rings: February 5th
As part of the Digital Film Fest, Cineplex will be showing the Lord of the Rings trilogy on Saturday, February 5. In Calgary, this will be at Chinook mall, but you can check your local listings Based on the running times, these will be the original theatrical versions, which I have not seen since they were first released.
Like the theatre's Classic Film Series, blogged here in November, this has been under-advertised, as I only chanced to hear about through some friends I chanced to bump into at the mall. Still, the line up of films beyond the Lord of the Rings is great, and at five dollars a ticket, it is an affordable good time.
The other films in the festival are:
