How to carry a Lightsaber #1
There are a few canonical ways of wearing your saber on your belt:
- Hung from a belt hook with a d-ring on the saber (Original Trilogy Style)
- A cell phone style universal clip (Prequel Trilogy Style)
- Tucked into the obi (Luke, ROTJ Style)
- Tied onto the belt with leather strips (Aurra Sing EU Style)

Wichitalking 'bout Kansas
I created my own US State t-shirt at the Slashboing T-shirt shop. The shirt follows a long tradition of slightly funny shirts with punnish references to the names of US states.

A Parable
Another group of people came and said, "How cruel you are! You both are sitting on this poor old horse. Have some mercy on it." They both thought about it, and the son sat on it while the father started walking.
Again, another group came across and said to the son, "What kind of young lad you are? You are enjoying a ride on this horse, while your old father has to walk in this hot weather." The son started walking and let his father sit on the horse.
Another group came across and said to the father, "What kind of father you are! Your little son is walking and you are enjoying yourself on this horse."
Both father and son became so upset that they carried the horse on their shoulders. Then all the people started laughing on them.
Finally, they got rid of that horse by throwing it into a river.

Missing Wash
My wife and I agreed that when we got our new car, it would be free of bumper stickers and slogans. We changed our mind and picked up a "Wash is my Copilot" licence plate frame from "Black Market Beagles," a very good Cafepress shop specializing in Firefly/Serenity gear.
How it possible to be so moved by the death of a fictional character? Damn I miss Wash.

No sleep till Tatooine
What I did end up learning is the following:
- The marketing department at Jolt Cola has done a great job
- The droid designations "R2-D2" and "C3PO" do not contain enough characters to designate a particular droid.
Using a 4-digit Character/Number/Character/Number code only gives 67,600 unique numbers, not enough to stock a galaxy. This is diminished further if "R2" is the model number, giving only 260 unique numbers in the set. Most of the Expanded universe has the whole name being model designator, so there could be 100 R2-D2 units working on the same project, meaning the customer would have to assign a unique identifier to each of his droids. The films do not support this, as this designation is used as a unique name to give orders to a specific unit.
The short and the long of it is, if R2-D2 is his name, then we don't know the series name, but if it is his series model number, then we don't know his name. Deal with it.
- 1:3:8 is a very good "showers/meals/hours of sleep" ratio
Nuff said.

More T-shirts from Slashboing
The back of the shirt reads "www.calgaryfanforce.com" which as Slashboing readers know, is not mis-translated dialog, but rather the website of the Calgary Star Wars FanForce.
To make ordering from the Slashboing shop easier, I have added a link to my list.
Enjoy!

Memes to avoid
Memetics is a means of explaining why almost everyone knows the words to "Jingle Bells, Batman Smells" or what to shout out during the pauses during "Mony Mony" even though these things were not formally taught to us through mass communication or institutional means.
I promise to stay away from many of the cliche internet and blog memes, unless they are Star Wars related, or are extremely funny.

Great Mischief and Fun
We attended the Pirates of the Caribbean showing as planned. I think it went well! In our group we had at least 25 costumed pirates, and 15 or so pirates-at-heart in their civies.
Veritate has a much better post of the event, and she wrote it first. And I must say that I was most impressed by the considerable cheer that went up from the crowd when Captain Jack Sparrow made his entrance.
Until next time, Keep to the code...

Updated Disney Pirate ride video
The original "Pirates of the Caribbean" ride at Disneyland, along with the Haunted Mansion, rank in the best rides on the grounds. At some point Disney looked at these rides and had to decide whether to knock them down and make room for a film based ride or to make new films to keep new fans interested. Don't think Disney would take out classic rides to make room for something else. As attractions age, or sponsors come and go rides disappear. See "Yesterland" a site that lovingly documents the passing of classic rides.
With the crumby "Country Bears" and "Haunted Mansion" movies things looked bleak for a "Pirates" adaptation. But even Jerry Bruckheimer (Pearl Harbor, Armageddon) schlock could not keep the first Pirates movie from being great.
With the coming release of the sequel, "Dead Man's Chest" on July 7th, I present footage of the updated Disney ride with the addition of an animatronic Johnny Depp.
